Crisis Mappers Net

THE INTERNATIONAL NETWORK OF CRISIS MAPPERS

Hello,

I am currently preparing a measles vaccination coverage survey for parts of West Africa. Without a proper sampling frame, I am limited to two-stage cluster sampling methods. A limitation of this method is that estimates may be obtained for the population as a whole, but not for individual clusters. However, I would like to break down the results for certain sub-populations. If anyone has mapped results from cluster surveys or used the results for spatial analysis, I would be interested in hearing about your experience, particularly in relation to pastoralist populations. Thanks,

Pastoralist Survey Method

For those interested in sampling methods for nomadic pastoralist populations, I recommend the Pastoralist Survey Method, presented in the article "New method for assessing acute malnutrition in nomadic pastoralist populations" by Anne-Marie Mayer, Mark Myatt, Myriam Ait Aissa and Nuria Salse. This article can be found online at Field Exchange:

While designed for assessing acute malnutrition, I hope to field test this method for vaccination coverage surveys and to report on my findings. ~ John Pringle
