Crisis Maps are to Humanitarian Crises what MRI's are to Emergency Rooms.

The purpose of the ICCM 2010 is to bring together the most engaged practitioners, scholars, software developers and policymakers at the cutting edge of crisis mapping to address and assess the role of crisis mapping and humanitarian technology in the disaster response to Haiti and beyond. As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently noted in a policy speech in Washington DC, "The technology community has set up interactive maps to help us identify needs and target resources" in Haiti. The question is, how did we do and how can we improve? Here is an overview of the unprecedented role played by the CrisisMappers Group in Haiti. ICCM 2010 will bring together the major players working on the Haiti response to identify lessons learned and formulate best practices for the use of technology in future crises.

ICCM 2010 follows the highly successful ICCM 2009 event which brought together many of the actors currently responding in Haiti to foster a closer network of collaboration. All videos from ICCM 2009 are available here including this video on Conference Highlights. ICCM 2010 will therefore bring together actors from the CrisisMappers network and beyond including high-level policy makers, leading scholars, seasoned humanitarian practitioners and innovative software and technology developers.

The Conference is being hosted on October 1 and the Annual Meeting of Crisis Mappers on October 2-3, both in Boston. These will follow the same design as ICCM 2009. New this year is a special training session on Crisis Mapping on September 30. Get ready for Ignite Talks, a Tech and Analysis Fair, Roundtable Discussions, Self-Organized Sessions and a Keynote Address. Please create a profile on this group and join our google group to receive updates.

Note that the Conference on Oct. 1 is public
while the Annual Meeting is by invitation only.
