Jean-Matthieu Buton is Product Engineer in Infoterra France.
He recently participated in a project at Google Inc. (Mountain View CA, USA) initiated by Infoterra France and related to software technology transfer in the field of satellite imagery processing system (Pixel Factory TM).

As a Consultant, Jean-Matthieu participated in disaster damage assessment and crisis/conflict mapping projects for international organizations (ESA, UNEP, European Commission) and NGO's such as MSF, French Red Cross, Action Against Hunger).

He started his career in a leading mobile phone company as a GIS consultant for radio planning and 3G network mapping.

Jean-Matthieu has also an extensive international experience. He participated in several projects located in Chad, India, China, US.

Jean-Matthieu completed a Masters degree in GIS and Remote Sensing at the University of Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris 6. He is lecturing in operational application of GIS and remote sensing for disaster management and crisis mapping in Marseille and Avignon Universities (FR).

Open Street Map 2008 : A year of Edits

An animation showing edits to the OpenStreetMap.org project during 2008.
OpenStreetMap started in 2004 and the rate of contributions is accelerating with four times as many people contributing to the project in 2008 compared to 2007

Complete Haiti damage atlas produced.

The Haiti building damage atlas was produced by the United Nations’ Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)/Operational Satellite Applications Programme (UNOSAT), the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), and the World Bank in support to the Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) process led by the Government of Haiti.

Impressive Haiti coverage progress in Open Street Map

The video below shows how impressive is the progress of Open Street Map data coverage over Port-au-Prince.
It clearly shows the quick increase of data from the day after the disaster (T+1).
