Bio
Patrick Meier is the co-founder of the International Network of Crisis Mappers (CM*Net) and the co-organizer of the first International Conference on Crisis Mapping (ICCM 2009). Patrick also co-founded the Program on Crisis Mapping and Early Warning (CM&EW) at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI). He is Director of Crisis Mapping and Strategic Partnerships at Ushahidi. He recently co-authored a forthcoming UN Foundation Report on the Role of Digital Technology and New Media in the Humanitarian Space and prior to this consulted for the Threat and Risk Mapping Analysis (TRMA) project launched by UNDP in the Sudan.

Patrick is also a PhD Candidate at The Fletcher School and has an MA in International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). He is an alumnus of the Santa Fe Institute’s (SFI) Complex Systems Summer School for PhDs and was a researcher at the Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO). He is on the Board of Advisors for Digital Democracy and DigiActive. Patrick was born in Cote d’Ivoire and grew up in Kenya. He blogs at iRevolution.

From Baselines to Basemaps: Crisis Mapping for Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E)

I was just in Berlin for meetings with Transparency International and the topic of mapping for Monitoring & Evaluation came up yet again. Earlier this year, Mercy Corps and UNDP Sudan both expressed an interest in exploring the application of crisis mapping platforms for M&E.
